Why do cats look like they just smelled something bad?



Ever wonder why your cat has that "eeech" look on its face after smelling something (especially another cat's butt)? It's not what you think.

Cats have a special gland in their upper mouth. After they smell something with their nose they open their mouth to use this gland to re-route the air passages to their nose to help the cat's sensory nerves carry messages on a separate route to the brain than that of the normal sense of smell. It's sort of like re-smelling the scent but in a different way.

Cat's need water in summer's heat



It may not get as hot where you live as where I live but the summer heat still takes a toll on your neighborhood's outdoor cats. It may not be a bad idea to place a dish of fresh water in your yard each day to help them to stay hydrated.
